Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181 will use April 19 and May 24 as make-up days for student attendance days lost to extreme weather.

The district’s nine schools have been closed on four days — Nov. 26 and Jan. 28, 30 and 31 — due to snow or extreme cold.

May 24 was designated earlier as a makeup for Nov. 26, and April 19, which is Good Friday, will be used as a second make-up day.

Superintendent Hector Garcia said the state requires 174 student attendance days. Adding the two make-up days allows the district to meet that requirement, as long as there are no additional school closures.

“In consideration of our families’ and staff schedules, our goal is for the last day of student attendance to remain on Friday, June 7,” Garcia said in a statement.

Garcia said for the 2019-20 school year, the district is exploring alternatives to canceling school by using delayed start days and/or eLearning Days.

In the case of inclement weather, both options would allow student attendance to be counted for the day and eliminate the need for make-up days.
